What is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of over 100 cannabinoids that are found in cannabis plants.
CBD does not get a person "high", unlike another compound from the marijuana plant, known as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).  This allows users of CBD to experience some of the same potential benefits as THC, but without the high.

What is the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)?

The human body has an endocannabinoid system (ECS) that uses cannabinoids for many important functions.  Our bodies actually produce some cannabinoids of their own, which are called endocannabinoids. The ECS helps to regulate functions such as sleep, memory, appetite, energy, inflammation, motor control, mood, temperature, immune-system response, and pain.

The ECS does this via cannabinoid receptors found in different areas of the body. There are two types of cannabinoid receptors that have been identified:

-CB1 receptors which are in the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system)

-CB2 receptors which are in the nerves of the extremities (peripheral nervous system), digestive system, and certain cells in the immune system
